Young Media Critic Jakiyah is guest with Ms. Juanita Richburg Seon, on Blogtalkradio.com/youngmediacritics Thursday, March 21, 2013 and talked about the influence of the media on young people particularly young women.
Jakiyah said " she didn't think girls her age would be able to live without technology." Jakiyah said that young girls look up to the women they see in the magazines. They feel when they see a woman who is small, they think they should be small. They don't realize they are beautiful just the way the are, but they feel they have to be that way because that is what the media is showing them.
Ms. Juanita asked Jakiyah did she have any suggestions as to what they young women can do? Jakiyah suggested that young women can talk with their mother, aunt, teacher or any other woman with who they feel comfortable. She also suggested that they could join a youth support group and share how they feel about things. Jakiyah indicated that often young girls have low self esteem and they don't want to talk about why they feel the way they do. Most of the time they know the answer, however they are not willing to face the truth.
